Parent Consultation and IEP Support

Help navigating special education: reading the file, understanding the evaluation, and sitting at the IEP table. An IEP (Individualized Education Program) is the plan public schools write for students who qualify for special education; the process around it has its own language, timelines, and rules, and we work inside it every week.

What we help with

Special education file review
An informal read-through of your child's records, evaluations, and IEP with a verbal debrief, or a formal written review you can bring to the school. We flag what is missing, what the data actually shows, and what to ask for.
Translating an evaluation into a plan
A plain-language explanation of what the standard scores mean for how your child learns, and an individualized learning plan built from them: which intervention, at what frequency, starting where.
IEP meeting attendance
We attend IEP meetings with you, billed hourly. We help you prepare questions beforehand, speak to the instructional evidence in the meeting, and debrief what was and was not agreed to afterward.
Mediation support
When you and the school disagree about services, mediation is a formal option under special education law. We help you prepare the instructional case: what has been tried, what the progress data shows, and what to request instead.
Finding the right tutor
If PSL is not the fit for your child's needs, schedule, or location, we help you vet other providers: which credentials matter for your child's profile, what questions to ask, and what progress should look like.
Learning support for the adults
Guidance for the people teaching your child: how to run home practice that reinforces intervention, and training for a classroom teacher or ed tech who wants to support your child well.

How pricing works

Consultation is billed at $125 per hour.

The first hour of consultation is waived for families of current PSL students. Scope is set at the free consultation, so you know the estimated hours before anything is scheduled.

Our Commitment to Equity

We are committed to working against the way that racial and socioeconomic privilege manifests itself in the identification and remediation of learning disabilities.

We do what we can by offering need based scholarships, doing pro-bono consultation for families with economic needs, providing services in some of Maine's lowest resource schools, and working with educational advocates on the toughest cases to help ALL students get what they need.
